A ProAdvisor is a bookkeeper or accountant certified directly by Intuit on QuickBooks. The tiers matter more than most people realise: basic certification covers day-to-day QuickBooks Online, while Advanced certification covers complex files — multi-currency, class and location tracking, inventory, and the reporting layer most small business files never use properly. We hold QuickBooks Online Advanced certification. In practice it means we have seen the ways a Canadian QBO file goes wrong, and we fix them rather than working around them.
Yes, and that is most of what we do. You invite us to your existing QuickBooks Online file as an accountant user and we review what is there before changing anything — chart of accounts, tax code mapping, bank feed history, and any unreconciled balances carried forward. You get a plain-language summary of what we found and what needs correcting. If there is a backlog to clear first, that is handled as bookkeeping cleanup before ongoing service starts.
Our ongoing bookkeeping runs in QuickBooks Online. Intuit has been moving Canadian customers off Desktop for several years, and QBO is where the bank feeds, receipt capture, and payroll integrations actually work well together. If you are still on Desktop, we handle the migration as a one-time project first — see our cloud accounting setup service — and then take over monthly bookkeeping in the new file.
For most small businesses in Canada, yes — mainly because the Canadian edition handles GST, HST, and provincial PST as distinct tax codes that map cleanly to CRA and provincial filing lines, and the payroll module calculates CPP, EI, and source deductions to CRA rules. That said, we are also Xero certified, and there are businesses we point to Xero instead. A bookkeeper who only ever recommends one platform is selling, not advising.
You can, and many clients prefer it because the subscription and the data stay in your name. We will tell you which plan actually fits your transaction volume rather than defaulting to the most expensive tier. If you would rather we handle the subscription, we can discuss that on the discovery call.
Setup is a one-time project — configuring a new QuickBooks file, migrating from Desktop or spreadsheets, building the chart of accounts, and training your team. This page is the ongoing relationship: monthly bookkeeping, payroll, and filings run inside QuickBooks by a certified ProAdvisor. Plenty of clients start with setup and move into monthly service, but you do not need one to get the other.
